Hi All,

I have a chicken who continues to have blood in her stool 6 days after Corid treated water and a 5 day treatment of dewormer. She’s not a big eater/drinker so I have been filling a syringe with the Corid treated water and administering it down her throat every other day. She does drink the water on her own though, just not a lot. Also, her bottom doesn’t appear bloody so pretty sure the blood is internal. Any advice/thoughts?

Photos?
You have photos on your other thread, but photos since you've been treating with Corid and Fenbendazole?

Hi @Eggcessive I’ve been giving the dewormer as you suggested and have put Corid in both water sources. Yesterday I saw no blood but tonight I saw this right under where Tammy was sitting (see pic). I’m trying not to panic. I guess I was thinking once the medicine got in her I’d stop seeing blood. Is it your experience they may continue to poop some blood even while being treated?

I will try to take photos of any other bloody stool though. I was reading that it’s normal for them to shed intestinal lining though, and am wondering if that could be what I’m seeing.

It may be intestinal shedding. If you see more, please do post it.

Thank you @Wyorp Rock , here is from this morning. This is basically what it has looked like right along. And if it is intestinal shedding, should it be occurring like this, 5 or so times in the last 8-10 days?

Is there any way you can have your vet do a fecal float on some of those fresh droppings? Some strains of coccidia may be resistant to Corid/amprollium. A vet could help you get sulfa antibiotics or toltrazuril which could help if there is still coccidiosis.

Hi @Eggcessive and @Wyorp Rock, Unfortunately a fecal float on the fresh droppings isn’t possible, they were already frozen solid by the time I got out there this morning (we are having very cold weather for our area). The other problem I am having is that I will be unable to be around for the next week or so starting tomorrow (something prescheduled that cannot be rescheduled), the person who will be house sitting is not an animal person and so I likely won’t be able to do anything until I’m back. The only other thought I have is that the corid I added to the water was bought in 2022 (although kept out of sunlight in a cool dry place), I’m thinking if I make a batch with fresher corid (I had already ordered fresh granules) maybe that would be better?

I agree, I'd treat again.
Perhaps go with a Sulfa Antibiotic this time and see if that makes a difference.

Was the Corid you have the powder or liquid? If Powder, it's probably still good, but may be worth giving a round of the newer product you get.

In case you decide that you want to try something different.

It was liquid. I’ve gone ahead and ordered these two things from Jed’s and will treat when I return. Thank you both so much for all your help, it’s so great to have a community of folks who know and love chickens that I can reach out to!!M
