Controlling Hen..

So my rooster was about to get it on with one of my hens when ‘big momma’ came hurling over and began to peck the big lads head whilst he was doing his job. What’s this all about?

It must be, big open free range space with only 5 hens and she still manages to strut over no matter what

She is probably the dominant hen and is pecking at him because he was showing his own dominance. Things will probably improve once the rooster asserts himself with the bossy hen.

She could also simply be bored. Branches, hiding places, and toys for your flock might help.
