Conversion of "3 sides totally open" aviary to a "good for chickens" coop.

Pics
Really hard to get it in a photo. This is from the street. Doesn't look like a large degree of slope from deck to fence. There is a side slope as you can see!

This is with the camera on the top of the fence, with one fence picket/board seen blurry on the right side of the photo.

Stoned as that guy may have been...the info is pretty good, shows how mush work it really is wish there was more about harvesting the compost when 'done'.

Closest I found was another video where he (with much shorter hair) took some of the top layer that was still not totally broken down and used it as top dressing mulch for a veggie garden. He wanted it to add a little nitrogen from the poop and also hold some water. Haven't seen a video where he harvests the deep stuff

Seattle Blizzard! UW Seattle and UW Bothell closed due to snow. Like.....2 inches of snow. Hahaha.

Lessons learned related to chicken coop. Snow will blow in a little bit. Enough to land on the ramp at least.

Did not go out in the dark before I left for work to see how much was on the ground in the coop, but I assume about the same amount as seen on the ramp. Looks like the roost and poop tray are dry. I will have to go feel around after work before it gets dark. See what is what.

For reference.....

Second round of snow. Seattle doesn't usually get more than an inch or two. So this much accumulation has pretty much shut things down. Was at work only one day this past week for example.... Stores had no bread or milk or proteins....these photos were actually from about 24 hours BEFORE the second storm hit. People stocked up early.

So I took the time to make a chick waterer. Used some food grade silicone on the threads to hopefully avoid any leaks. Going to let it cure for a day and then leak test it. Really hoping that none of the actual nipples leak. The threads should be sealed really well, but if the metal pin and black gasket are bad......guess I will have to either tear the nipple out or seal it up with silicone so it isn't usable.

Silicon shouldn't be needed for threads, especially in HDPE, if you use the right sized drill bit (11/32") and made a good clean hole(no drill boogers).

Some good visuals here:

You would think no sealer would be needed, but I have bad luck! Haha. I have made quite a few over the years in different thickness plastics, and have about a 50/50 success rate. Most times one or two of the 5 or 6 I install in a container leak a bit from the threads and require me to unscrew and rescrew a few times. Occasionally switch out for a totally new nipple.

Bought the specific bit size, did some really light sanding/deburring of the holes, etc.... I think I am just unlucky. This is the first time I used silicone as a safeguard. I am sure you are right, but I had half a tube left over from when I made my latest saltwater fish tank. Had to work to get the solid plug of silicone out of the tube, but it was probably worth it just to use up the silicone. Figure it wont hurt! Unless I have a leaker from the o-ring/metal pin! Haha

My experience may be due to the lot number/quality/possible knockoff nature of my supply of nipples.... :idunno
