Converting a not-a-greenhouse to a chicken coop

Except for painting the bare boards on the outside, the coop is done (barring any redos I decide to do...)

Oh, there will be redos, add-ons, and "why didn't I think of that"s. Unless you like frustration and change, stop reading BYC now... lol

The nestbox is waterproof. I got to buy a blowtorch

We already had the roofing roll, and I also needed to bridge a gap between the gutter and the edge of the roof (nice waterfall down the inside back wall when it rained when I was working inside before we got the girls) and the blowtorch was much cheaper than the gutter tape stuff plus something to cover the nestbox roof.
Yeah, I still need to add that to the nest box covers. I will do that tomorrow....or the next day...

After a couple of months using a handsaw, drill, crowbar, hammer, and a blowtorch, I hurt myself for the first time this afternoon while folding a ladder. I knew there was a reason I hated ladders...

Oh yeah, the ladder attacks, they will sneak up on you if you turn your back on them. Just show her the blowtorch, she will know who's boss....

It was supposed to rain Saturday--and did, quite heavily, in the early morning. So this week, I got the outside painted.

Back and front. Pop doors are solid gray.

I finished the trim just as dusk was starting Friday, and I hadn't started shoveling the gravel from the rubble pile yet--the ground in front of the coop is bare dirt, and will turn into a mud pit if nothing is done. But it was getting dark so fast that I knew I wouldn't be able to see by the time I was half done. Then I saw the 2 sand bags that had been in the way for a year and a half. 15 minutes, a pair of scissors and a hoe later...

The sand castle is courtesy of my younger daughter.

We got 2 more hens yesterday, from the same flock that we got our first 3 2 weeks ago, so no quarantine. I did put up a getting-to-know-you wall by zip-tieing panels of our old Superyard on top of each other (the panels are 26 inches tall, and everyone has clipped wings).

Our new girls.

Sand was a good idea....if you could put more down before the gravel you will be even more satisfied...
They look great, what breeds are they? One on right looks like a Buff, other one looks like Golden comet...
The old shed looks pretty good..
