Converting a resin shed to a chicken coop

Hi all. I’m new to raising chickens. I got a small coop for free but now that I have 4 hens I’m finding that I want some thing larger and more gals added to my flock... I LOVE them! I’m considering purchasing the shed in the attached pic and adding a run, ventilation, and nesting areas. All the coops I see are made of wood so I’m here looking for advice if I should convert this shed or just attempt to build from scratch out of wood. Any advice is really appreciated!

You'd have to add a lot of ventilation to a resin shed because they retain heat more than any other shed material. I would find a coop design that you like and price out all the material and see the difference in price. I believe you can build quite a decent coop for $200 in lumber, but my prices in my location may be different than where you are.

Just get pricing on material and see if it's cheaper to convert that shed to a coop or to just build a coop yourself.

There's been a few people on here that have a vinyl coop. Hopefully someone will more info will chime in about how to modify, add ventilation, ECT.

I see, like me, your from upstate NY. Our weather gets pretty cold up here, so space in the coop during winter is important. You need 4sq ft per bird of unobstructed floor space, so that coop is good for 6 chickens max.

...fabrication methods are a bit trickier, and that 4x6 size is kinda tight, especially if you want more birds down the line.
If at all possible, it would be better to build a bigger, wooden walk in coop.

I agree, there's gonna be days or possibly a week where the gals won't want to or be able to go outside.
