converting large dog house into silkie coop

I am converting a large dog house (one that was made for 2 black Labs to fit into at the same time) into a coop for my 4 silkie hens. The only problem I can see right now is that dog houses have no windows. Once I put a door on the front opening and close it up, it would be very dark in there. I am planning on adding vents near the roof. Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of window I could use on a dog house?? I do need one right??? I can't imagine them being totally in the dark and liking it!! Thanks for the input.

I've got my silkies in a run with a dog house for shelter. If yours are going to have a run to be able to get ouside they probably don't need a window.

Katy, Do you have a door to close them in at night to protect them from predators, or is your run super secure so that you don't have to have a door on the dog house coop?
Here I will have to have them shut up in the coop at night for their safty. During the day they will be in the run area.

My run is as secure as humanly possible

and I feel good about their safety. I do have a door that I can shut during the winter months, but they still have outdoor access during the day.
