Converting my Shed to a Coop : baby steps

Looks great! I love salvaging stuff. In the long run it ends up being more work but the pride and results are worth it.

Well over the last 2 weeks got some work done on my coop conversion. Have been balancing work/both daughters softball and gymnastics, family and coop building, but its coming along. As posted above got the old siding and roofing off and loaded up in the trailer to get it to the dump. Wrapped the exterior in paper, cut new front/rear siding using the original panels as templates (worked ok).

Got the new T111 primed and painted while laying flat in my shop, then installed, struggled to get the roofing on by myself using several pieces of 1/2" OSB, 15# tar paper for now, until it is actually nice out. I overhung the front/rear of the coop by 18" and started to frame out new gambrel trusses but the first one was way off, disassembled it and will cross that bridge later. It can stay as it is for now.

Used 1x4 cedar for trim around the doors/corners, 1x2 cedar will trim out the pop door.

used 1/2" HC for ventilation and will get it trimmed out also.

Pop door is 14x16 and hinged out to meet up with a ramp to the run.

used 2x6s around the inside of the coop to hold in whatever I use as a floor covering (straw/pine shaving?) then put down my first coat of BlackJack 57.

Still need to build up my nesting boxes, a poop tray and roosting bar. And figure out where/how to run my T posts and wire fencing.

Its looking great! The only observation I'd make is that for 4 chickens, you only really need 1 nest box. I have 15 layers and they only use 2 nest boxes - they make some strange decisions at times (guess we all do!)

Had the day off, it didnt rain and got some work done.

Hit the discount building supply shop, got some 1/2" T111 unprimed , 1/2" OSB , couple 2x6s , and roofing felt.

unloaded it all to the shop and started to deconstruct the shed.

Whoever built it, didnt frame in the window right imo, it leaks like a sieve, will have to figure how to seal it up and then the best way to shingle around it. The walls are no longer square and vertical, used to ratchet strap to pull at as close as I can get it, still not close.
Hopefully its not raining tomorrow and i'll pull the roof off and paper it. Will also wrap the walls before pull up the new siding.

Looks like things are coming along
