So many u have done it on byc, yes i have read up.. I have a coop 4x4 cart coop, my chics now are 6 and 10 weeks old, oh how they need to go in it..

Today as iam typing they are jumping from brooder to brooder ... It's cute but, it's time they go out...

Then I have incubating, favorelles and marans next week, my goal is bandy coop, for 6

And another coop for 3 standards

Here's my dilemma
I can't build..and I don't have more then 450 to spend

I already am getting, 2 10 x 10 dog kennels for their runs

Question

For my chicken village.. Wink wink

Which one would you order
To convert

The Winchester which I can only assume is more similar to the Savannah playhouse so many spoke of on here

http://www.kotulas.com/deals/Produc...0&srccode=cii_10043468&cpncode=23-126659209-2

Or the bayberry which reminds me more of the bellena that lowes once upon a time carried, so many spoke of on here

Oh and theirnis no free shipping at stated, the price being shipped would be $400

So both will run about the same price

Please help me

If I were limited to only these choices I would go with the first one.

No good reason, just an uninformed opinion.

I personally would take the 2nd one from Toysrus.. You do not need the cutesy exterior stuff on the first one for your chickens. Not to mention I do not like cedar for my chickens.

The toysrus one is 249.00 and you get free shipping. Read details on the shipping info. That is a great buy..

I and alot of others on here bought the wooden playhouses from Lowes. They started around 300.00 and went down to where I purchased 2 for 79.00 ea.

They no longer sell them but I am impressed on the quality of wood and the way they went together.

You will need to place the playhouse on a treated floor and treated runners to keep it off the ground. And probably use a good sealer to maintain the color.

Good luck on your decision....

Square footage is significantly larger on the Winchester (first option). I wouldn't worry about it being cedar so long as you have good ventilation.

thank you.. thats what I noticed..

and the toys r us.. says free shipping.. but instead.. its.. upto 20.00 so its really about 400.00

so both are the same price

hence.. when I started thinking I should.. shouldnt I go for the larger one, that only makes sense to me..

but converting it with the bay windows all around.. ayayyaaaaa.. LOL

thank you for helping me

You stated.. limited to those choices.. you know of dollhouse.. looks.. for under 400.00.. please do share then.. share with me, because I have been searching everywhere..

and yes, I agree the first one is larger.. so that is why I was thinking the first one as well

xoox

When I put the toysrus one.. in the cart.. It stated.. final price 479.00 it only took off 20.00 for shipping

so that free shipping wasnt really applicable

now that its even more expensive then the larger one, I was thinking.. larger... larger would always be better, right???

or really I guess with the cost on the bayberry being lower I would have jumped at it..

thank you so much for taking your time and putting your input in.

I know you did ask....but I wondered if you checked out this website? http://cconly.com/coop__hutches/chicken_coop
I
have a couple of his coops and they aren't too bad, but I was able to pick them up so no shiiping involved. They have to be put together, like a kit, but you wouldn't need to put any more $$ into revamping it into a coop (perches, etc.)...Hope I didn't cause any trouble?

Good luck and enjoy!

Don't thank me yet:)
I finally think I've made a firm decision and then find something else that makes me second guess myeslf...so thought I'd share my indecision! Anyways, as far as how I like it...for the cost of the coop and what I wanted/needed it's worked fine. It is not like a plywood, heavy duty sort of coop, the one I have in an 8x12 dog kennel has four bantams in it comfortably, it's about 4'x4' with the nest box off to the side. The owner did recommend I put another coat of wood sealer on it for extra protection against the elements, but ours is an older model, they have updated all of them (bought mine as display models). They also have a few more 'things' on them than the last models did, like I put a two perches in (one low on on side of the door, one higher on the other), lined the floor with scrap linoleum and put hinges on the nest box lid. It's held up really well, been a rough winter and it's in the elements with a tarp to help a little. Like I said, for what I needed it is great--my laying hens have a section of a real shed (they have 6'x12' of a 12x18 Amish built shed) so there's no comparison--apples and ornages kind of thing...but as we getmore into this addictive hobby we find they need separate areas of different sizes, and I can't afford to have the Amish build a shed for each flock! Bottom line, it does the job for a small group of birds and well worth the price, plus it's just about ready to go. Sort of reminded me of the Sauder furniture kits you buy that come in a box--very heavy, open 'em up, pull it out and translate the directions, but the pictures give you the idea. Took me longer as I did seal the entire coop inside and out before I put it together, but didn't want to regret not doing it right. He has geared these for smaller flock owners, those who live in urban areas and where the looks are part of the package (but if you live in grizzly country, might not work well).
The second model is closest to what I have my bantams in (Model CC-018M), but it's nicer than mine, has the hinges, etc., that I had to add later...pretty close in size too, looks like about 3'x4'...and I don't think I'd put more than 4 or 5 hens (lf) in there--just personal experience, my big girls haven't been to kind to one another, so more space is a good thing.
Hope that helps--I'll try to post a pic, you can see how it's held up after 6 months and a rough Ohio winter...
