Convincing parents

My dads an engineer so he helped me plan on the supplies I need and he has it all in his garage.
Well, that's cool, doesn't sound like you'll have to convince Dad...so there's half the battle won, eh? ;)

We'll only have about 3-4 chickens and it's going to be a 14 x 14.5 coop (i think that's enough room?).
Is that in feet?
The coop itself or is there a run too?

Oh, and... Welcome to BYC! @KenjiQuacker

I would add their compost waste would be super beneficial to your mom garden.

That would perhaps get your mom to be likely be more supportive.

Unlike my mom, chickens are seen as farm animals. Therefor needing tons of space. She can’t stand seeing them cooped up. And never liked my past chickens tearing up her garden. LOL

Good luck, chickens are fun simple animals to keep!

So, as far as responsibility on something like that, I've already proved myself! Now the hard part. I need to find the right dog to try to convince my parents with.
Maybe you can get your dog fix by volunteering at a shelter or as a dog walker. Bet there are a lot of parents out there who were promised by misty-eyed children that, "of course I will take it out for a walk every day, clean up after it, etc" until the novelty wears off and guess who takes responsibility. Children also have a habit of growing up and moving away somewhere where dogs aren't allowed.
Trust me. I was guilty myself. My children grew up with cats and dogs that were members of the family before they were. Their animal responsibility was learned on a smaller scale with pet rats, guinea pigs, and even a chinchilla.
My ex is an engineer. They don't tend to do thing on a small scale. :lau

That's exactly what my Mom is afraid of, that's why I actually have the proof from being the top to the only care taker of my chickens. I'm even paying for their grain and bedding for them. :D As far as volunteering, my Mom has suggested that, but then Covid hit and (being special needs) I have a hard time wearing a mask. As far as walking other people's dogs- I don't really live in a safe neighborhood, so my parents wouldn't ever approve of me walking their dogs. :( There is talk of maybe fostering in the future, so I'm really hoping that that could be a possibility someday soon. :D

I’m pretty sure OP meant the dimensions as feet.

3-4 chickens would definitely be plenty of space for spec of 14’ by 14’ as an open air coop. But I would advise to make the coop is self a structure to keep them out of winter element if not located in warm part of California or Southwest states. :)

ohhh i didn't know that's how you did it. Also I live in issaquah washington (lots of rain :hmm ) so i'll be making a water proof hutch thing with a roof (not sure what they're called) and i'll use straw to insulate it. Btw yes, it's in feet sorry i didn't make that clear lol, and it's the entire coop, so part of it will be the sheltered hutch or whatever you call it, and there will only be 3 or 4 chickens

I think you should look at the community page of member chicken coop. Give you an better idea what a proper coop should be for your chickens. Especially in your area. I would offer an enclosed structure for them to roost and nest. And have a run space for them to walk around when not supervised. :)

Hey Kenji Quacker Sounds like you are going about things with a good plan, and proving your sense of responsibility. Proud that you would take on the expenses as well as the chores.
Fostering might be a great solution for a dog. That way you could potentially meet different breeds, sizes, and needs.
We also have doggy home-stay day-care here. So if I have be be away, my dog is staying in a family home with people I trust. Could be just overnight, weekend, whatever. Maybe your Mom would consider that.

No problem....I always like to check to be sure.
The enclosed space where they sleep on their roosts and have nests for eggs in is called the coop,
the more open space is called the run.
