I found this last night. Looks like a great idea to me! I am wondering if you can shorten the extra light to 14 instead of 16... I think I'll call and ask. 16 hrs of daylight all year seems like a lot to me..

The one from Foys is cheaper. I have 2 and love it. I'm about ready to order my 3rd, now that my new coop is almost finished. I just use the light sensor, not the timer.

My chickens would spend most of the winter in their coop with that opener! It doesn't open if the temp is under 20 degrees? That wouldn't fly around here. I'm going on vacation for a week in mid-January. I have the feeling they'd be locked up that whole week if it doesn't open in cold temps. I'm think I'm going to buy the one from Foys.

Pretty pricey for me and I think 16 hrs are way too much. I use a string of xmas lites for 14 hrs and laying fine...my leghorn gives me a daily egg. When I get my permanent coop built I plan on making my own opener using this link from cfabiens, another BYC member. MUCH cheaper!
