Cool Chicken Coop Design

Looks big enough for 1 chicken. That is about all that I would put in there. I believe in LOTS of room for my chickens.

Um, where's the ventilation? At least 1 square foot per chicken?

A 9 square foot coop is only big enough for 2 chickens, too (two chickens who like each other a lot).

Enh, on Maui that coop would easily hold 4, maybe 8 chickens, no problem.

In some parts of the continental US that would be true also; including parts of Colorado as long as the coop was placed in a shady location and the chickens free ranged.

I don't think it makes sense to have minimum-size prescriptions that are independant of information on the whole rest of the setup.

elmo, that particular article doesn't make it clear but the thing is actually quite WELL ventilated, those 'striped' looking upper triangular areas are vent slots routered into the plywood, they have plexiglass panels to clamp on for wintertime. (I saw a much better article somewhere else but have no idea where)

Aha! That makes a big difference! Although, I do have to wonder about how easily air flows through those small narrow slots. It would seem that the usual hardware cloth vents would promote better airflow, offering less resistance. Certainly adequate for winter ventilation; not sure about summer in a hot climate, though.

I suppose it's possible to put roosts in a 3' by 3' space such that you could get enough horizontal roost space for that many chickens, but how could there possibly be enough space for the chickens to get up and down from the roosts? That would be a tight squeeze.
