I know there are probably plenty of threads about really cold weather and chickens, but what about you chicken keepers in moderate areas? Need opinions! I'm near Dallas TX , it's chilly tonight, will get down in upper 30s but dry and no wind. I left the south windows of the coop open, and the chicken door, which is at the north end of the coop, which is 8 X 4X6 ft. That door leads to the ramp. The coop's 18 inches off the ground. Should i shut up the north door, to make sure there are no drafts? Earlier this week it was in the 30s for 3 days, misty, stiff north wind. They were out playing in the mud all day although i shut them in at night, leaving only 1 south window open. How will i know if they are too cold? I don't want dead hens to be my first clue!
