Coon attack 6 week old missing half of toe..

All the coon was able to do is nip off about half of the middle toe..

She can still get around but doesn't move much.. Do you think she will live and is there anything I can be doing to up her chances of survival?

Thanks everyone...

Chickens can survive some very serious injuries. It probably hurts so she doesn't want to walk . Keep it clean and maybe some neosporin with out the "caine" type pain relief, like lidocaine. If it looks like it is getting infected you may need systemic anti biotics.

Good luck,

lucky chick!

when I was at the store buying my chicks, we found one that only had half of a toe. while my husband and I were debating on whether or not to take him, an old farmer came up and said "if you dont want him I'll take him, I like the oddballs." we handed him over and I'll bet that chicken is doing just fine right now. we haven't had any serious attacks(knock on wood) but all the stories I read on here amaze me at how chickens bounce back and thrive after getting badly hurt. I'd say take care of the wound, make sure food & water is close by for a while and see how he does, it might not be that bad after all

good luck!

One of my hens lost half of her toe when I accidentally closed it in the coop door.....Horrible I know....I used betadine to clean it and covered the area with neosporin and gauze. Then I wraped the whole foot up to the leg in vet wrap. I left it covered for few days and changed the bandage twice a day adding neosporin every time. It looked pretty good so I uncovered it and just kept her quiet for a few more days. She was in a rabbit cage inside during all of this bc I was worried about infection. She is now fully recovered and looks 'special' lol. You would be amazed at how tough chickens are. I probably went alittle overboard treating her but I really care about my pets. And hey, whatever I did worked! Your little chick will be totally fine
