I've had 2 male coons eating here for over a year. I just shot one. They've been eating cat food the whole time. Would they go for my chickens if I took the cat food away. I just saw a female with 4 (used to be 5) babies and I don't want them to be dining in my barn as well. If the cat food was gone, I'm assuming they would just fine somewhere else.

Coons like to eat chicken, too. If you quit feeding them, they might go elsewhere. Considering that they are used to coming around, trapping and shooting them seem to be the best ideas.

From what I've experienced, coons are like stray cats. If they get food at your house, they will keep coming back even if you don't feed them anymore. They only go away if you kill them or completely 100% remove any possible food source. So yes, they will most likely try and go after your chickens.

Last night, I took the cat food away after reinforcing my coop a lot. The coon left traces of shoving empty bowls looking for filled ones, but he/the coon family (I'm not sure if they have been here) couldn't find one. They couldn't get into the coop .
