Very Well Done!

Well poop. I was hoping Jaws wasn't a rooster. I told my neighbor (who works nights) that I wouldn't have any roosters. I may have to trade Jaws off to another neighbor. And he was my favorite.
I didn't get anything done last night, i took the night off.

Tonight I will put some trim around the entry hole to keep the bedding in. (Thanks for the wonderful idea!) Seal around the door, and begin construction on the roosts.. also paint the inside of the coop white for better light reflection. Also will put in my vents on the top, Later this week I will put in the people door and shoot some pics of it.

I was a bad boy last night and bought 3 more chicks, bringing the total up to 13. But thats it!! no more. I want the ladies to have extra room.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions and comments! Makes the wife happy when you all say I did a good job. She was worried there for a bit.

If you can swing it, make that trim around the entry hole easily removable, so that when it comes time to muck things out you won't have to work around it.

Love that door too.

lovely coop!

could 'jaws' be a boy? I have a different breed than you however, at that age the only one with a comb like that.... is a roo.....

Came home last night and hit it super hard. Got a TON done!

First thing was to put a border around the entry door so I don't lose bedding through it. Thank you for the eggcellent suggestion Teach1rusl!! Looking back at it I am going to add another taller board around the three sides to make it a wee bit higher.

The next thing was to put in the first of the roosts.. Each of the 2x4's will be sitting in a little notch so I can take them out for replacement/cleaning as needed. I think I'll get out the router and round off the front and back edges while I'm at it.

I finished the trim on the front for the most part.. I think we are going to use more 1x2's paint them blue and use them vertically to cover the last of the seams.

Final bit for the night was to build the big access door for the coop. This is located inside the run. Makes reaching and cleaning the big areas easier. It can be propped open for more venting.

Tonight's project is to paint the door, paint the inside of the coop white. And while the wifey is doing that I will make the outside access doors for poop tray removal. More pictures tomorrow.

Keep throwing out ideas!!!

As an added thought I am giving serious consideration to making the egg boxes a roll out type. Our oldest daughter is autistic and she may have more fun getting the eggs if she doesn't actually have to touch the chickens. Should be easy enough to do, as I haven't even started the egg boxes yet. If anyone has any good links with pics so I can take a peek at some you like, lemme know!
