Coop and chickens...what did I get myself into?

Hello all, new to chickens and backyard chickens. I'm not sure what I got myself into but so far I'm enjoying having them around. I found myself sitting on a bucket in the run for hours on end feeding my greedy little feathery friends after work yesterday. Spend a few weeks pouring blood, sweat, and hard earned cash into their coop and run...and they seem to be enjoying it while I'm learning who's who in the pecking order... I have a lot to learn about chickens and I think I found the perfect site with all the cliffnotes

I find myself doing the same thing - watching "Chicken TV" for hours on end. Ours are even starting to get friendlier as they mature. I had one sit on my chair/lap for about 10 minutes the other day, even though all her friends had wandered off. And of course, they know who has the treats! Our neighbor admits to spoiling them when she watches them for us, and they have started following her when she stops over to say hi.

I love Chicken TV, its the best part of my day, i find it extremly relaxing two nights ago i fell asleep while sitting with my girls and woke up with 5 of my 15 sitting on my lap lol.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. Just post any questions that you may have on the forum and I'm sure you'll get lots of replies. We are here to help in any way we can. Your coup looks very nice, but I would suggest covering the chicken wire in hardware cloth. There are just too many predators that can either tear though chicken wire (dogs, raccoons, opossums, foxes, etc.) or pass through the openings in the mesh (weasels, minks, snakes, rats, etc.). I know it's a little extra expense, but it's cheaper than replacing your flock. Hardware cloth has saved many chicken owners a lot of tears. Good luck with your flock.
