So I thought it would be a good idea to give my flock some shade and built my coop/run under some trees..... well it turns out that was a bad idea because the trees are black walnut trees and the sky is falling for my chickens. this is just a heads up of one of the things to look for when you are picking a location for your coop/run.

Sounds like an excellent place for a coop and run...Teaches them to be aware of their surroundings and keep their heads up... :lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau

I am jealous I wish I could have a black walnut tree here.... :(

I have 3 dz trees dropping bombs.. I could send you a box of nuts LOL

I grew up with 2 black walnut trees in the yard. Spent a lot of time as a kid sitting on an old granite well curb with a hammer, cracking and eating those nuts.

I thought they were great until I was picking up 4-6 large wheelbarrow loads a day.. every day for sept and oct.. chickens will not go by them when it warms up and the nuts start falling .. they have gotten way out of control this year with hot weather and company.. I am doomed to roll around the yard in the snow LOL

Seems like a good idea until you have to gather them every season.
