I put 2 or 3 yards, I work for a stone and gravel company and brought home a small load of septic sand we sell, it's designed to drain water for septic systems so I thought it would be a good choice if it ever gets wet, total depth is around 5 inches. The coop itself is sitting on small concrete blocks for stability.
