Coop and run up!

Well, even though we found out last week there is an ordinance against chickens in our town, we went ahead and put the run up because the chickens needed to get outside. Here is what we have so far. Chickens are still figuring out if they want to go in the run or stay in the coop.

Nicely done! Usually as long as the neighbors don't complain (mostly if you make sure there's no smell and no rooster) you should be able to keep the chickens no problem. You might want to consider some netting over the top of their run to protect them from overhead predators. Sometimes the hawks are just too fast for them to all run back into their coop to hide. There coop looks darling!

Like Bribebeliever said if keep the noise down and have no smell most neighbors don't care. With a few chickens smell is almost never an issue. Smell comes from to much manure that is wet. Keep the coop clean and smell will never be an issue.

This is not an issue for you but looks is always another thing that will get neighbors to call city hall in a heartbeat.

I actually have a neighbor behind me that came over and was moaning and groaning because the neighbor next to him caled the city on him.

We are allowed to have up to 15 hens on our property. His coop looks like garbage. He put up four pieces of plywood (didn't even bother to paint), four pieces of rusty tin for a roof and the run is a mishmash of fencing.

I told him if he lived next to me I would have called as well. I also told him that it was "things" that look like yours is why citys don't like the idea of chickens and neighbors complain. The city gave him 30 days to bring to code. The mess left.

Just make sure that you don't let "stuff" accumulate around the coop, keep it painted, clean etc.

Expanded the run. We now have a 17x20 run and a 26x28 run as well as our starter coop and the big coop. Chickens are loving it.
