Coop at night?

Don't lock them in during a heatwave, even with a door open or whatnot - it's simply too risky unless you know for a fact that the temps inside the coop never exceed outside temps.

When you "put them in" at night, are you picking them up, or herding them through the door? Do they ever go inside the coop during the day to prove they know how to get in and out? Is there a ramp and if so, how steep (photos may help)?
