Hi, what sort of bedding is best for under the roosting poles?

If you use a poop board then sand or pdz so you can sift it. Otherwise, some people (like me) like pine shavings, some love sand, and so on. There is no best, though I'd consider bare floor the worst, shredded paper second worst. It all has to do with personal preference and climate.

I use deep litter. Pine shavings, leaves, pine straw, sticks, pine cones, garden leftovers and what ever else I can get my hands on. I love it!

We use pine shavings on the coop floor. Under the roost is a poopboard lined with PDZ.

I use pine shavings but if you have a poop board use sand for that. Everything has its ups and downs. Bare floor and paper aren't the best. Straw doesn't absorb as much as sand and pine shavings. It is all your preference.
