Coop bedding??

I put sand in mine, but am having a problem with it (especially because the "coop" is only raised two foot off of the ground and is enclosed, so I can't really access all of it). It's awesome the the poop really does desiccate, but is starting to build up. I think I'm going to start the deep litter method on top of my sand. I'd like to use straw for my nest boxes, and pine shavings for the floor/run of the coop. I'll get back in a month, or so, let you know how it's going.

I just clesned my coop for the 1st time today. My coop is only 4 feet deep, also 2' off the ground. I attached my large litter scooper to a 3' stick and PRESTO! Worked awesome!

I do admit that the wet parts in the run were a little harder to clean, but still not bad at all! The entire coop 5'x4' and run 5'x10' done in like 20 min. That includes adding DE and 150 lbs more of sand and raking it all together.

Sand!

It is great for them to dust in, easy to sift through and get the poo out, and(since it doesn't decay) it last a long time.

Since I clean out the poo daily, I have never had to deal with changing out the sand. When it gets cold, I put hay on top of the sand and the sand helps to keep the hay clean and fresh.
