Coop Build

I do not. I have electric wire around the run and bird netting over the top. It is not perfectly secure, which is why I am building a new larger coop and run inside the current run. I have never shut them in and never had a night predator in 4 years. Only the eagles, who attacked during the day. I have evidence that the bird netting worked with them this last week. They tore a hole in the netting, but couldn't get to the chickens. Now they know about the netting and I don't expect them back. We just have the one pair here. Bald Eagles are very territorial here. I know they aren't in Alaska, but here the food is scarce so they diligently their territory.

I used to live on Whidbey Island and we were going to move back when my husband got orders there so I bought a house (long story I repurchased the house I built and sold when I was stationed up there. I found it for sale as a repo and snapped it up. Daughter ended up renting it and eventually I sold it to her and her husband when they got married last July). I had eagles from the sound coming in my yard to eat their fish all the time. I miss that.

Such talent! Your signs are lovely, and the coop will be fabulous. Be sure to have enough ventilation - 1 sq ft per chicken. Maybe more in Texas. I see you have some shade! +++!

There are windows on three sides and I may add windows to the back when it's done. There are also two huge vents going in at the top....It is under trees and in a decently shady area so I hope it won't be TOO hot for them. I plan on building a water system attached to a cooler so I can make sure they have cool water when it's really hot.

Thank you for the compliment. I love making signs....got a bit carried away in my house so I'm glad to have the coop to decorate now :)
