Silkie & (maybe) Serama Hatch-A-Long

They are sooooo cute!!!! You’ll have to remind us at the end which ones hatched from blue eggs and which from tan!
Yep, I'll try to remember 😄

Yes  . That’s probably the best thing I’ve read on this forum all day.

You can also do betadine, if you have it on hand. Just rinse it well with water after you’re done disinfecting. That applies to both methods
:D 😅

Ok, thanks for the tip. Not sure if I have that on hand though.

Ok, great!

I know! I just can't believe how adorable they are :love

This time next week they’ll be total poop machines  ! Enjoy it while it lasts!

Still no external pip from popcorn? Candle right before you make the hole on the shell. You’ll want to see if Popcorn has pipped internally, and where their beak rests (so that you don’t hurt them). The hole doesn’t need to be big at all, just large enough to get some air in

I changed the towels in the brooder already.. and they obviously had to mess it up straight away again :lol:

Nope. I'll be candling again soon. One of the silkies not pipped yet either.

Eightball is still attached to the shell via umbilical cord, but he's chirpy and just resting most of the time. I'll leave him at it so it can dry out and hopefully fall of by itself.

You could use a clean pair of scissors to snip the cord close to the shell just so the chick isn't dragging it around.

I usually snip mine in this situation. (Close to the shell, not the chick) Just so that nothing is pulling on the umbilical cord. I get paranoid that they could herniate if they pull too hard. I don’t think it would ever happen, but it makes me feel better knowing they are loose.
