Jokes aside, vinegar works just as well. There really shouldn’t be any issue post rinsing, but if you’d like to play it safe, go with vinegar

!Yep, I'll try to rememberThey are sooooo cute!!!! You’ll have to remind us at the end which ones hatched from blue eggs and which from tan!
Yes. That’s probably the best thing I’ve read on this forum all day.
You can also do betadine, if you have it on hand. Just rinse it well with water after you’re done disinfecting. That applies to both methods
Ok, great!Jokes aside, vinegar works just as well. There really shouldn’t be any issue post rinsing, but if you’d like to play it safe, go with vinegar

! Enjoy it while it lasts!I changed the towels in the brooder already.. and they obviously had to mess it up straight away againThis time next week they’ll be total poop machines! Enjoy it while it lasts!
Still no external pip from popcorn? Candle right before you make the hole on the shell. You’ll want to see if Popcorn has pipped internally, and where their beak rests (so that you don’t hurt them). The hole doesn’t need to be big at all, just large enough to get some air in

Five hatched, Eightball in the incubator and two eggs not pippedhow many have hatched so far? and how many are still in the incubator?

You could use a clean pair of scissors to snip the cord close to the shell just so the chick isn't dragging it around.I changed the towels in the brooder already.. and they obviously had to mess it up straight away again
Nope. I'll be candling again soon. One of the silkies not pipped yet either.
Eightball is still attached to the shell via umbilical cord, but he's chirpy and just resting most of the time. I'll leave him at it so it can dry out and hopefully fall of by itself.
I usually snip mine in this situation. (Close to the shell, not the chick) Just so that nothing is pulling on the umbilical cord. I get paranoid that they could herniate if they pull too hard. I don’t think it would ever happen, but it makes me feel better knowing they are loose. You could use a clean pair of scissors to snip the cord close to the shell just so the chick isn't dragging it around.
