We are building a new coop to replace our old one. We have 6 chickens, so first question.. is 2 nesting boxes okay or too many? Second question.. ladder or no ladder for chickens to get into coop? We are raising the coop so there will be fenced in area underneath but ladder or no ladder helps decide how high the coop will be off the ground if that makes sense. All tips appreciated!

You can put a ladder. If you don't mind me asking, why do you want to raise the coop?

Agree with 2 nest boxes being adequate. My coop is 2 feet off the ground and I do have a ladder/ramp to the pop door. I think it is easier on the hens instead of them having to fly up. You will find it easier to get to a bird underneath if you add a way to access the area from outside.

The photo attached is similar to what we are building, raised so they have room to walk around underneath, also it will be connected to a larger enclosed area we have built for them.

If it's going to be raised as much as the one in the picture, use a ladder.
