Coop building question

If I plan on having a mobile tractor for my girls do I need to still have an enclosed pen area for them attached to the coop?

Depends entirely on how you want to keep your chickens. Do you want to free range them? Do you want controlled pasture? Total confinement? There are lots of approaches.
