Coop building

So today my mom made a grave mistake and said "you can get more chickens when you have a bigger coop". And although I don't have a lot of money to spend, I'm determined now. So does anyone have any good ideas for big cheap coops? I'm having a little trouble finding my creative side.

I have seen coops built out of pallets where they made a floor out of pallets and filled in the gaps, then stood pallets on there side for the walls and filled in the gaps. Built a roof. Used home depot outside 'oops' paint to paint it. Added some hardware. Ta da! Chicken coop.

For my coop, I built a base and expanded a 4'x4' playhouse into a 4'x7' chicken coop with external nestboxes and a poop board. It works great so far, even after several visits from raccoons. Everybody is safe! You could look for a large free building on Craigslist to fiddle with, or just expand on the one you already own.

Check out your local ReStore, (habitat for humanity) always has a turnover of building materials low cost. They also have paint, very cheap.

Set an icon for a quick daily search on your computer or smartphone to the local craigslist specifically for free stuff or free materials

Look for barn or farm estate sales for hardware, cans of screws, bolts etc. roofing too

Goodwill sometimes has stuff, but neither price nor selection are as good as the ReStores(usually)

Hardware cloth may be trickier to get cheap, maybe Craigslist again (with an icon) under the materials for sale. Sometimes people buy too much and will sell partial rolls. Check around.

Missouri eh, both cold and hot. you will want lots of air, so I would do a BYC search for open air coops, ventilation

They're some great pallet coops here on BYC made with 8' and 4' pallets, shipping crates.

Cheep N Peep, I'd love to see a picture!

All the pictures are still stuck on the camera, and will probably stay that way for a while.... however, I plan on making a coop page, so I will PM you then. Even today I did some work... added third window, installed insulation... All I have to do is cover the insulation and paint the outside. And finish the run, which is actually the easiest part. The coop WILL be finished before winter hits, so, you won't have to wait TOO long. It's nice to have someone interested, though.
