Coop Construction HELP!!!

Why does it have to be a triangle shaped coop? Not that it isn't possible, of course, it just seems like you'd be setting yourself up for a lot troubles figuring the roof and your angle cuts on your 2X4- you'd need a miter saw. Could you not just build an 8X8 square coop and stick it in the corner- you'd have two accessible sides that you could utilize instead of only ONE accessible side. With a triangle, it would be a bit more difficult to fit in nest boxes and a clean out door all on one side. Plus, the window or venting- you'd get better air flow if you had more exposed sides. If you had a square coop stuck in the corner- then you'd still have one side to put your nest boxes on and the other side to put in your clean-out door. I'd just really think about it and look at your space and make really sure that a triangle is really what you need before you get started on it. Not to mention, the foundation and cutting the boards all with angle cuts... ugh, my brain would hurt! I'm sure it can be done, but I don't know where you'd buy your 2X4 metal hangers on an angle to screw in your floor. (that is assuming you are building a raised coop) Perhaps you could use hurricane ties and bend them. Like I said, I'm sure there's a way around it, but if you aren't a master carpenter... not sure I'd want to attempt that.

But.... if you do... I want to see lots of pictures of your progress!!!

This would be something VERY unique, no doubt!

I think the math is wrong it base x height/2 so the 12.73 x whatever it is from point to base divided by 2

so if 12 is your base(long wall) from there to the point would like 6.66666 maybe that makes the sides 9.....i dont know about that

You're right... to find the square footage it's base X height /2, but to find the length of the hypotenuse, it would be a*a + b*b = c*c, where a and b are the given sides. so 9*9 + 9*9 = 162. Square root 162 = 12.73 ft.
