I have purchased 2 books, the Building Chicken Coops for Dummies and Chicken Coops 45 Building Plans for Housing Your Flock and I still cannot find a desing that I like and one that will be small enough for our tiny front yard and yet big enough for about 6 - 8 chickens (maybe 1 rooster?).

I have to have something that has a merterials list and instructions or I am going to have to hire someone to build the thing and I want to STAY AWAY from the major cost.

Any websites, books or other place where I could get such plans would be GREAT.

Honestly, I'd bite the bullet and buy pre-fab if you need an instruction list. We're already about $250 into our coop and run and after lots of back and forth between DH and me, it almost would have been better to go pre-fab. Especially with the cost of the hardware cloth alone. That stuff is spendy. BTW, we (I) did lots of research on BYC and came up with my own design.

hey there. I too was wanting a list and instructions to build a coop. But I never found one that was exactly what I wanted. So I just took what I liked from lots of different ones and started sketching it on grid paper. I will tell you for the 8 chickens minimum in 2ft per bird so 8 x 2 is 16sq ft or 4x4 coop, people say always go bigger but if anything you keep at the minimum and give um free range during the day. Also look at horizon structures mini coop for ideas. It may seem like alot of work but actually 2x4's will become your friend. I would never have thought I could build something (not even a bird house) but I am nearly done with my coop. There is a book raising poultry sucessfully (written in 84 i think) and it has a building list from a coop extention but it is for a 10x10 coop. But there are a couple of pictures of a tiny coop and run that fits 8 chickens. Good luck!

Mommysongbird, I may be able to help you with your coop. I have building experience and can make a material list for you. All I need to know is what you are looking for. Coop size etc.
