COOP DESIGN: Ideal location of nesting box placement in regards to ease of cleaning and deep litter

Forgot to mention.......or maybe forgot if I did mention.......but those nest boxes are not fixed in place. They are just sitting lose on wall brackets. You can take them outside to clean them. Wire bottoms was an old school trick.......if you got mites.....you took the next boxes out and passed the wire bottoms over a hot fire in a burn barrel......cooked their sorry little butts.

What few are aware of......is that almost every aspect of what it takes to make up a functional chicken house.......things like roost size and shape, height, next box size and designs.....square footage.....ventilation.....lighting....etc. was worked out well over 100 years ago. The closer we can adhere to what is known and proven to work, the better off the birds will be. The farther we stray........the worse things get.
That's good to know! We will use hardware cloth on the bottom of the nest boxes.
