My Coop
We have four two month old chicks and we took and old cupboard and turned it on its side to make a house for them. It is fully enclosed in the run. The question I have is I have the top with the ramp set up for laying boxes and the bottom part for them to sleep in at night. It is just about ground level with a roosting bar running across it but raised on paving stones. They do not go in on their own at night, I have to scoot them in. They quiet down right after I put them in and close the door but is it against their nature to sleep so close to ground level or am I over thinking this and they will eventually realize this is where they go at night?
Thanks for all the answers to my questions.

my hens always sleep as high as they can get!. Chickens are descendants of jungle fowl and I believe they feel safer up high at night but I am not sure. I would look into the matter ASAP so your chickens are feeling safe at night! I know I wouldn't be sleeping well if my ladies were not feeling secure.... Hope you get it all worked out! :)
