Coop Design Questions...need the experts

Hi all you BYCers!!!
We have now finished our run

and are ready to build the coop inside. At first we were going to do a sort of triangle coop inside one of the corners. Then we got our rabbit and it came with this great little cabinet that sits on the ground and is around 4x2 ft. So we thought maybe we could build our coop on top of the cabinet and store stuff inside below. or we could even make the inside of the cabinet part of the coop. My question is: Are there any other ideas out there and how many bantams/standards would a cabinet coop fit?????

I think it's like 2 sq. ft. per bird. Mine have less and they're very happy. They sleep right next to eachother anyways and I have a run with open access all the time. I think that, as long as they can get outside, you can put them in a shoe box coop....well, maybe a boot box

we started off with 1 and before the month was well on its way , we had 40 more ... we now have over 100 ....

The more room the better . remember you need plenty of ventilation but , NO drafts .

We were thinking like at the most 5 or 6 bantam pullets. No cocks though.

If you can limit yourself to the number of birds you originally planned on getting, you may be the only one on this site to do so.

Well , you want them comfortable . So , the size you mentioned earlier in previous post is not what I would consider enough room .

remember , 2 to 4 sq. ft. per bird ...


Look thru this forum they have alot of pictures of small , medium and large coops , designs , instructions and suggestions .

What if we also built around the sides of the cabinet for more floor space or even used the inside of the cabinet as well???

If you are referring to enlarging the cabinet , that might work .


I still would check on this forum for coop designs ... I know you will get some great ideas .

Please post some pics when you get going. Chickens are addictive. Once you get some and find out how much fun they are you will want more.

It would help if you were to post a pic of the cabinet you are talking about. That would give us a better idea of what would be the best thing to do.
