Coop Design -What am I missing??

Well, I'd give him a time frame and remind him that this does not need to be overengineered. I'm also married to an Engineer and asked him to build me a stationary coop, then I just let him go. He built a gorgeous shed, and everyone who's seen it agrees with me, that it's too beautiful for chickens, so the hens are still in their (also beautiful AND overengineered) chicken tractor, until I can finish knocking together a bigger coop!

Good point. I'm also married to an Engineer. You may want to set some boundaries and limitations or you could end up with an over-engineered, monster coop. Feel free to reference my BYC page for an example of that.

If there is ever a tornado I'm heading to the coop...

I was just saying this to my DH the other day! He used hurricane ties on the coop. Our house doesn't have these "hurricane ties".

In the unlikey event that a tornado happens to strike our property, the house will be a total loss...but at least the chickens will be safe!

There are days I'd be more than happy to ship him off...

but usually he's a keeper.
