Coop door ideas (Human)

May i see what it looks like on your coop?
Yes. Open and closed. Obviously can open the top on it's on in order to throw in foods and what not. We also have a handle on the inside door and a hook/eye latch so we can be inside without then getting out.

I believe you can never have too much ventilation.
Chickens are forest and transition zone dwellers, not cave animals.
It's not just about ventilation, but also precipitation and wind. NJ has winters. If you have rain blowing in onto the chickens, and it freezes overnight, you end up with frostbite. Chickens need shelter from the elements. Doesn't have to be a sealed cave, but they have to be protected from precipitation and direct wind.

I have both a solid door and a screen door for my coop. The solid door is an exterior house door that I found tossed on the curb. The screen door I built myself, wasn't hard - a wooden frame with hardware cloth on it. I have two sets of hinges, on either side of the door frame. The solid door is permanently attached to one set of hinges, the ones that open outward. In the summer, I open it all the way out and tie it back so it stays open. Then I attach the screen door to the second set of hinges, so it opens inward. I only use the screen door for the summer. It really helps get more air moving in there. When it starts to get cold in the fall, I take the screen door off, untie the solid door and use the solid door until it gets hot again the following summer.

Finding a used door somewhere is very convenient, but even if you don't, a door is not hard to make. Look it up on youtube.
