Coop Door Necessary?

My run is as secure as my coop.

I designed and built it to withstand an attack by a 200 pound dog, all six sides.

This would be my worst nightmare.

My run is accessible to the coop 24/7, kept open through hurricanes and blizzards, no issues.

If designed properly, of course you can keep the coop door open 24/7.

I live in North Florida so I don't have a coop. My are in open air pens made of hardware cloth or 2x4 fencing lined with hardware cloth. Half the roofs are covered and the other half open.

Finally built a coop door, still kept it opened 24/7. However, it is quite nice to be able to isolate the chickens in the run while airing out and cleaning the coop. As the weather gets colder, the door will come in handy to retain some heat at night.
