Coop Door Needed?

If my/your run has been predator proofed, is there really a need to have an automated door on the coop?
No, if you’re ok with having one layer of protection instead of two.

I wrestled with this a while and finally left the door open 24/7 on the Nestera coop inside the secure run. One reason for this was the image of a predator getting into the coop, where the chickens would have no escape.

Everything has been fine so far.
