Coop door open?

i've found with my little ones, if i don't close their sleeping coop when i tuck them in, there is one little girl that pops out and runs around the pen. Then she gets scared and can't figure out how to get back in because it's dark and hard to see. So i find it best to lock them in their nighty night coops at bedtime. This is also an extra layer of protection in case some varment makes it through the chain link and hardware cloth of the surrounding run area.

Was that what your question was about, or am i totally off base?

It was overnight. I let them free-range all day, so the coop door is open then.

Sorry for confusing everyone. I was wondering if I shouldn't leave the door open when I've let them out to free range. I leave the door open just in case we are later coming home or if it starts to rain.

I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I was missing.
