Framing the inside of the door would be my suggestion, but depending on how the "jamb" was built that may be not be possible. You would just screw the T-11 to the inner frame. But I did have to cut the tips off of a few screws on my nesting box door. Drove them all in and shaved with a dremel. Pass a finger over them to make sure there are no sharp edges.
T1-11 is tricky because of it's odd thickness. A common exterior 1.25" screw can be "just a bit too long".
