I see You are from Canada aoxa. Do You know anything about White Chantecler? They should be very good layers in the winther. Not only the first year.

Yes I know about the Chantecler. They are extremely rare - but not here. A lot of people are working with the breed. They do make excellent winter layers, comparable to a Plymouth Rock - without the issues with frost bitten combs.

If you have a well ventilated coop - frost bite should not be a worry. No signs of it thus far, and we've gone down to -25 this year. Today is very cold.

Good to know it will survive. A lot of people complain about laying here. I tell them: well lets get some Chantecler over here. The original danish farmchicken has been known to sleep in trees in 20 c below and lay eggs in frost. But not a lot of eggs in the winter.
