I have made the plunge ...I have purchased 2-8" 12 volt dc automotive radiator fans and a power supply 120 volt ac to 12 volt dc to run them. They are direction reversible and can change direction by swapping polarity. I plan to connect them to a timer so they will be on before roosting to cool the coop. I would like to set it up to be temperature controlled...but just want to get it installed and tweak it from there...pictures to follow.

If anyone is interested...it has been hot and steamy in south Texas the last 7 days. A high actual temp of 100 and heat index alert of 113...the 2 fans I have installed in my 4'x8' coop has reach reached the highest temperature of 87 on the 100 degree day. I am very pleased with the way they keep the coop cool and most nights they shut off before 10 PM set at 78 degrees. Yes we have pampered chickens here at SNOWFLAKE FARM LOL

How can the coop temp be less than the exterior temp with fans running?
I'm assuming the fans are bringing in air from outside.

pictures to follow.
I look forward to seeing your pictures!
Yes, pics would be great.

The smaller run and coop are well shaded most of the day except for the last 2 ish hours before sunset...not sure if the shade has anything to do with the actual temperature or not. However the fans have ran past midnight the last 3 days with the temperature hovering around 80-81 in the coop. I did not calibrate the unit controlling the fans before installing so it may be registering lower than it actually is. I will check tomorrow with a thermometer.

These pictures show the fan controller, power supply and inside of coop. The temperature controls are showing 78 with a weather, channel outside temperature is saying 73 ...my thermometer is at work much to may dismay. I will calibrate the controls Monday afternoon and post the results.

The fans are fairly noisy but the girls don't seem to mind...much lol. The first day and night they were a little bit hesitant about going in the coop but now they seem to race to get in. They do roost close to the fans ...however the guard over the blades and the distance from the blades is sufficient enough that they can not touch the spinning blade.

Lots of shade definitely helps.
My coop is in full sun after about 1-2pm, it gets hotter than blazes in there, but a fan in east window running for a few hours late in day bring temps even with outside.
