How old are your chicks...are they silkies too?
Can the silkies get way up to the 3rd floor to roost?

yes all the silkies can maneuver to the top. The chicks, I dont know if they have figured the ladders out yet, they usually huddle in the heat lamp directly or a corner close to the lamp.

Silkie babies youngest are about 10 weeks (2 of them) the oldest is basically a small adult size so not worried about that one or the middle one.

I'm sure they'd be fine without it but just being cautious since it went from 50+ at night to 20's in one week.
