I would like to have 25-26 hens, maybe 1 roo, will a floor space of 12x12 give them enough room? They will also have a large outdoor area, but our winters are cold and want them to have enough room if they have to stay in for the real cold days. Should they be locked in when its below freezing? I have been wanting chickens for several years, then 2 weeks ago was given 3 nice red sex links. We have been enjoying the eggs, now I want to add more, but need to get a house up for them before I do. Thanks for any info.

12X12 would technically be enough room for 30 + chickens...You would need 10sq ft per bird in a run/enclosed area if they aren't allowed to free range, so for 25 chickens you'd need a minimum of 250 sq ft, so you'd be looking at 20X15 or 25X10 run....(or two runs on either side of coop 1/2ed in that size, so like 8X10 on each side)
