Coop getting wet in heavy rain-will they be okay?

Thank you for all your info!!! I'm going to go to HD tomorrow and get some roofing. I think that will do the trick. I have a tarp over half of the coop, but it seems to still be leaking. Only in heavy rain though...My hens are still happy though!

I heard about this roofing actually in my first post here about my future coop plans...but I cannot find info using search engines on it. any help?

I am trying to work out the pricing for my future coop and run for DH. I do want the run covered...we can get rain here in a few minutes as a few inches and I want my future girls to be dry as possible.

Oh I guess I should add the nearest Home Depot etc...is over 200 miles away so I need to have a complete materials list before going.

What do you call it at home depot and how much?
What standard sizes?
Colors or only clear?

Not sure where you live and if they carry different stuff but my home depot only carried it in green and clear. I still have 4 left I haven't used I will go get information off the label.

The label on it says corrugated pvc sheeting. The other tag says PALRUF PVC IRON WAVE GREEN W= 26" L= 8' UPC # 763552113702.

I would call ahead and give them the information to look up to see if they have it in stock and what colors. I liked the green because it gives more shade then the clear on my kennels.

The intresting thing is if you put corrugated pvc sheeting into google you get mostly UK sites.

I will just call home depot. For the roof I plan for the run I need this to meet up with the metal sheeting I already have for the coop roof and see what sizes they have.

For those who are recommending the plastic ridged roofing on the run.....question: Do you nail/screw it to a wooden frame or just lay it on top of the run?

Our chickens are in a dog kennel that right now has a tarp stretched tight with bungee cords for a roof. It's temporary. Inside are roosts and two plastic dog houses filled with straw.

This isn't predator-proof so we're working on that. If I replace tarp with the plastic roofing, what is the best way to do it? If it's just loose, won't it blow off in the wind? Do predators push beneath it or is it too heavy?

Screwing it down is best I believe . If you want to remove it, it is easier. also use the screws with the neopreme rubber gaskets.

There are special screws, as TxChiknRanchers mentioned, with rubber washers installed on them. That washer creates a seal so that when you pierce the roof material it doesn't leak.

I use a cordless screw gun to install them. They come in a variety of colors to match your material, and lengths to accomodate what you are screwing through.

Depending upon the length of material you are installing, you may be able to run a few screws across the top and bottom, and leave it at that. For longer lengths, you may want a couple across the mid-point if you have a lot of wind.
