So I didn’t have power at my coop but for this storm I ran a (extremely) long ext cord from the house to the coop in desperation to get some heat to them on the coldest nights. But all I had on hand for heat was a couple of chick brooder plates. They didn’t do much in -7 F, obviously. This morning I remembered I had a plastic heated water base that I hadn’t been using. So this morning I propped it up on its side and plugged it in. A few hours later, I went out to check on them, and when I opened the coop door, was hit with a blast of (relatively) warm air! Wish I would have thought of this 2 nights ago!
Disclaimer - mine is the red plastic K&H brand. I don’t know how hot the metal ones get in comparison. Just wanted to share in case anyone else’s brain was frozen this week too
