Would the number of chickens appropriate for a 5x5 coop that is 6.5 ft tall be more than the chickens in a 5x5 coop that is 4 ft tall? Ill have elevated roosting bars and nesting boxes.

Or is the amount of floor space the only factor that matters?

Thanks for the reply!

I bought plans advertised as being sufficient for 12 chickens, the number I own. The dimensions weren't listed. Got the plans, and the coop is 5'x5'. I don't see how that could be okay for 12 chickens. 😭

You're right, that's about sufficient for 6 chickens, based on 4 sq ft per bird. Do the nests occupy some of that floor space or are they external?

Your run only fits 6 birds max, so 6 is your magic number (max).

I've gotten such a wide range of recommendations...
From your POV, the minimum sqft in a run is 10 sqft per bird, then? How flexible is this number if the birds will be free ranging at least a few hours each day?
