On the weekend I am getting two light Sussex hens approx 1 year old. We are allowed to have up to 5 in our area (no roos) so we thought we would start with 2 and hope noone complains. (one complaint and you are pretty much out)
I have been looking a coop ideas, at the moment we have about a 1/4 of our garden fenced off for the chickens, they will have an area they can hide under if needed but the rest of the area is open. They will also be allowed to free range the rest of the garden on weekends (as we will have to lock up the dogs)
We are converting an old standard bird avairy to suit these two hens but in the future (if none of the neighbours have issues with them) then we want to build a better and bigger coop.
I like AN's coop

so was wondering how hard these are to make (last time I tried to build something I put a nail through my foot) I have a semi handly male friend and my dad is really handy (but he is now blind) so can anyone suggest something or know where I can get plans for something like this?
I found these two on www.ebay.com.au
Item # 300343103373 & Item # 200377658907
Not sure about the quality (and I would repaint them) This would be their evening coop/night coop and then allowed to free range in the sectioned off area during the day.
Any suggestions?
We are planning on buying 6 fertile eggs if no one has any issues letting one of the chickens go broody and hatch out some babies later down the track to take our flock from 2 to either 4 or 5.
Any suggestions would be great thanks.
