Coop ideas?

That looks great! If you don’t mind me asking, do you know how much the materials cost you, and did you have plans?
Thanks. No I designed it myself. Was going to use a large pallet for the base but got lucky and found it at habitat for humanity $25.00. the only material I had to purchase was 2 sheets plywood for roof, roughly 16.00 a piece. The window in the back. (got on sale Lowe's). The two side vents (once again habitat) rolled roofing material think 35.00. the roof vent 7.00 or 8.00 something. The cement leg blocks 7.60. linolium and screws; hinges and latches. I know one trip cost me 130.00 and think another 100.00.

Here is what it looks like today, not 100% finished!

Hey all,

Looking for an easy, low-cost coop for about 2-4 hens for a group of people to build. I was thinking about A-frames, but I’ve heard people have had problems with roosting?

Here is my A frame my husband and I build last summer for my two hens. I live it! It can accommodate 6 however. It cost about £90 to build as we had some left over timber. Interesting what you said about trouble roosting in an a frame..? Funnily enough although they do perch they spend half the night in the nest box or corner of the coop.. Is this an A frame problem?

if the roosts are up high in the A-Frame and you have LF and they don't have 12"-18" between the roost and the peak of the roof or the roost and the walls it doesn't give them much space to turn around, get comfortable, and getting on and off the roost without much space in front of them can be difficult as well.

Yes if the a frame is quite narrow that would be a problem. I have my perch running diagonally from opposite corners and not far off the ground. Lots of space to turn.
