I did some searching on the forum here, but only found one post pertaining to this. We recently moved to the country and I now have a 30' x 60' pole barn which is divided in half by a framed wall & slider door. The front half houses a work shop, fridge, sitting area. The back half houses all the implements, tractors and 'dirtier' equipment.
Since 80% of the structure is already in place, I decided to build my coop in the far Northeast corner of the back half under a storage mezzanine.
I've framed in the walls and here is what it looks like to this point. The top 36" around the 2 framed walls is hardware cloth. I plan on insulating the lower areas and paneling. The door will be full screened with hardware cloth as well. There will be a pop door to the north which leads to a 6' x 10' outdoor run. I also plan on putting a few windows in the pole barn itself, both in the North and East walls for added ventilation.
My biggest question is, am I going to be still fighting ventilation issues? Or is the entire pole barn going to smell? As you can see in the pictures there is a large equipment door to the east that I can leave open most days in nice weather to aid in ventilation. There is also electric ran to the coop for lighting and fans if need be.
I'm just looking for opinions on the smell, and if I'm taking enough precautions with windows and such to hopefully cut down on the smell. All feedback is appreciated...thank you.
