Coop in a pole barn?

I did some searching on the forum here, but only found one post pertaining to this. We recently moved to the country and I now have a 30' x 60' pole barn which is divided in half by a framed wall & slider door. The front half houses a work shop, fridge, sitting area. The back half houses all the implements, tractors and 'dirtier' equipment.

Since 80% of the structure is already in place, I decided to build my coop in the far Northeast corner of the back half under a storage mezzanine.

I've framed in the walls and here is what it looks like to this point. The top 36" around the 2 framed walls is hardware cloth. I plan on insulating the lower areas and paneling. The door will be full screened with hardware cloth as well. There will be a pop door to the north which leads to a 6' x 10' outdoor run. I also plan on putting a few windows in the pole barn itself, both in the North and East walls for added ventilation.

My biggest question is, am I going to be still fighting ventilation issues? Or is the entire pole barn going to smell? As you can see in the pictures there is a large equipment door to the east that I can leave open most days in nice weather to aid in ventilation. There is also electric ran to the coop for lighting and fans if need be.

I'm just looking for opinions on the smell, and if I'm taking enough precautions with windows and such to hopefully cut down on the smell. All feedback is appreciated...thank you.

The smell won't be a big deal, unless you put a lot of birds in there and don't ever clean it. The problem will be the dust. Chickens are dust generators. It just comes off their feathers(Feather dander). Ventilation should be OK after you open the outside walls up. How many birds are you looking to get? You may want to expand on that 6X10' run a bit.

4-5 birds total. There is plenty of acreage to let them out of the run and wander as they please, they just won't have the protection that the run will offer. I do have the occasional fox and red tail hawk, so I did want to give them a 'safe place' yet still outdoors. Thoughts?

And cleaning should be fairly straight forward. I'm lining the interior walls with white nonporous fiberglass skins so wipe down should be a breeze or even hosing off if needed.

4-5 birds, I think the dust maybe won't be a big problem for you. You'll have dust, but it shouldn't be any kind of big deal. Now if you were talking 12 or so, then you would notice the dust. I used to freerange my birds around here. Got away with it for almost a full year. Then I guess the fox discovered the banquet hall. After a couple of daytime attacks (Lost 9, then 7), I bought some electrified poultry net. Got 300' of it at first, then, because it worked so well, I got another 300'. The netting is a whole lot easier to istall, and cheaper for a large run/area, then building a wood framed, hardware clothed one. If you have fox around, when you let the birds out to wander the range, you gotta watch them, with a gun close at hand. The fox will blitz in there and out before you can say BOO.
