Coop in the making

Hello again everyone. I figured it was time for a quick post. I've been slowly ticking away at little projects on my coop so not much to say or pictures to share. However, my better half has a very creative side (must be the left-handedness in her) and when she saw the completed nesting box she offered to "bling" it out a little bit. The nesting boxes are now complete with a side mural. It's "chicken art" at its best. I think the chicks will appreciate their decor.

One final note for the day. For the last several months I've been trying to come up with a name for my coop and it finally struck me the other day, "THE SCRATCH PAD".

Until next post, take care all.

You're doing a similar thing to me and my shed is pretty much the same size as yours, similarly I found a rot problem when I moved my shed from where it was when I bought the property to a concrete platform I will be keeping it on so have reinforced the bottom.

You seem a lot better at DIY than I am!! I seem to be having quite a few 'blonde' moments.....but then I have never made anything myself so I am still stupidly proud of myself!!

I'm trying to decide whether to attempt to put nest boxes on the outside of the shed or whether to just keep them inside, I can see from all the posts it is a lot more convenient to collect the eggs from the outside but I think it maybe easier for the mean time if I put the boxes inside and then make my other half work out how to put them outside when he gets back from Iraq!!

Here's what I have done so far!!

I can't decided whether to block out the first window where the roost bar is because that shed does seem a bit light, what does everyone else think?

.......what does everyone else think?
I think you should start a new thread about your project

titled 'SomersetGirls Coop Build' with some more pics of it.

Pretty cool ! I usually don't do 'cute' .....but great expressions on their beaky little faces.

Somerset Girl - from what I can see you have done some very good work. Give yourself a pat on the back. I'm a newbie like you and learning as I go along. You should start your own thread and I love seeing pictures of other coops. In answer to your question it looks like there is a lot of natural light streaming into your coop. From what I've read this isn't a bad thing as chickens are "solar powered" and their egg laying is dependent on sunlight. However, it may get pretty warm inside. As long as they have an area where they can find shade and/or ventilation I think you have a good set up. Keep posting progress pics.

I love what you've done with the shed and your wife's artwork. Looking forward to your progress.

I really like the name of your coop. "the Scratch Pad" is an excellent name. The art work is sweet and your coop build is proceeding well too!

Spring can't come soon enough for me. I'm on PEI too and have 5 chicks in my bathroom! I am building a temp pen in my woodshed that they will be moved into until the weather is more agreeable.

These are silver pencilled PRs, and when they are bigger they will look like this:

So, if you are interested in some of this type, let me know.

PEI Chicken. Thanks for the reply. I've ordered 2 SPPR's and they are due in April/May. Once my chicks are here I will definitely update my profile. I can't wait to be a chicken owner!!!! Now, can we get this weather to improve....
